Joint winners are Simply Green Tomatoes and Tasmanian Saffron. The green tomatoes grown by the Lanyon family in Boort, Victoria, preserved in brine and finished with extra virgin olive oil, oregano and garlic, are a unique product in Australia, as is the excellent saffron grown and harvested at Nicky and Terry Noonan’s property in the Huon Valley, Tasmania.

The judges are eager to acknowledge excellence in unique local product and packaging efforts. This product was developed and packaged with an eye to the overseas market, and the back of the pack says it all – and in 11 languages. Multiple translations of ingredients, product usage tips and background information literally cover the inside of the cardboard outer.
It is lightweight, durable and able to be dispatched by post, air or shipped as ‘dry’ goods. A heat-sealed plastic pouch contains the product most efficiently, and is packaged with great style and economy into a sleek, stand-alone cardboard outer. A die-cut window to the contents is cleverly incorporated into the bold, black and white silhouette graphics, and the outer is matte-varnished for extra tactile appeal and durability.
Simple, stylish hypographics add to the overall elegance and understated nature of this design. This pack stands vertically at point of sale, and is predominantly black and white scheme presents a striking contrast in a deli environment

« Each year the award gives recognition to a person or business
that has shown an outstanding capacity to benefit agricultural pursuits
in our district. The award is sponsored by the National Australia Bank
and presented this year's award to Marilyn Lanyon for her diversification
business venture of 'Simply Green Tomatoes'. In 2001, with wavering tomato
contracts, Marilyn took up the challenge to diversify and thereby value
add to their present tomato growing enterprise. With the support of her
family, Marilyn has taken up the challenge to create a new product, learn
the business of production and face the challenge of marketing. Marilyn
is also involved in numerous other community organizations and a very
highly respected person in the local area. Marilyn has shown that with
determination and imagination, much can be achieved. »
